Small editorial team reviewing content at a shared desk

Our story

Why we started birdoben

birdoben began as an internal reading list, shared between a handful of people who kept sending each other explainers on savings accounts, interest rates and household budgeting. We noticed how much of that material was either overly technical or written to promote a specific product.

We built birdoben to sit in between: written for a general reader, factually careful, and free of any commercial agenda. The website has been maintained and expanded since 2019, one article at a time.

What guides us

Our editorial principles

No commercial bias

birdoben does not sell financial products or paid services. We have no affiliate arrangements with banks, lenders or investment providers.

Plain language first

If a concept can't be explained without jargon, we haven't finished writing it. Technical terms are always defined in context.

General, not personal

Everything we publish is general information. We do not offer individual financial, tax or legal advice, and we say so clearly.

Who we are

The people behind birdoben

birdoben is run by a small, independent editorial team with backgrounds in financial education, journalism and consumer research. Articles are reviewed before publication and updated when facts or figures change.

Editorial review

Every guide is checked for clarity and factual accuracy before it goes live, and reviewed periodically after publication.

Based in Switzerland

Our team works from Lucerne, Switzerland, though the content we publish is written for a general, international audience.

Reader-funded outlook

The site is supported by minimal, non-intrusive advertising rather than product sales, so our incentives stay aligned with readers.
